VentureCap Group is proud to announce that we’ve recently joined the world of Film & TV, expanding our investment and consultancy portfolio with an exciting new project in collaboration with Anna Barbara Films.
The Last Team, a ground-breaking documentary series, follows the last nation on Earth without a football team, The Marshall Islands, as they race to compete in their first World Cup and Olympics. This docu-series is Directed by Michael Boccalini and Produced by Megan Merati and Steve Hodgetts.
Many aren’t aware of this tiny island nation, but they’re on the brink of extinction as the first country to be submerged by rising sea levels as a result of climate change. The Marshallese people have something to prove, not just on the pitch, but the world stage, in the hope it will amplify the threat at their shoreline.
Our Managing Director, Matthew Watson, will be taking on an Executive Producer role, working closely with the talented team at Anna Barbara Films to bring this incredible and harrowing story to the world.
“From my first conversations with Michael and Megan, I knew I had to be involved in this project. Not only because it fused my love of Football and Film, but also because of their unwavering ambition to actually help this island nation preserve their culture, even if the island itself one day disappeared beneath the waves. This project goes far beyond just making a documentary.” – Matthew, Managing Director
The Last Team has already garnered the support of leading names in the world of Football, including Roberto Carlos, John Terry, Cafu, Arsene Wenger, Fabio Capello and many more.
Despite such a powerful roster, we’re still on the look out for support from across the world as we race to bring awareness of this impending catastrophe facing this culturally-rich island nation through the power of Football.
